UNIVERSITY OF PAVIA |
The University of Pavia is one of the oldest in Italy. An edit issued by Lotario (825 d.C.) established rules for the school of Pavia but the University, properly called, was founded by Charles IV in 1361 and confirmed by Pope Boniface IX. In 1485 Ludovico il Moro gathered all the faculties. After a period of decadence during the 17th century, the University flourished again with the reforms of Maria Teresa who in 1771 brought the University to its greatest splendour. Piermarini and Pollak conceived the plan of the present building. The twelve courtyards of the University create a very imposing ensemble. | ![]() |
