Post Doc at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Berkeley, CA): Environmental Energy Technologies Department – Industrial Energy Analysis Group (project leader Dr. Ernst Worrell).
Project: energy saving and emission reduction potential for the US pulp and paper industry

Jan 2000 - Dec. 2001

Post Doc at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Energy Management Group.

Oct. 2000 – Apr. 2001

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley, CA):Environmental Energy Technologies Department – Energy Efficiency Standards Group (team leader Dr. James McMahon) .Project: energy efficiency standards for distribution transformers in the US market

2002 onward

Researcher and assistant professor in Energy Management at Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Pavia.

Research Activity:

the Mixed integer linear programming technique has been used along with dynamic programming to deal with energy flows: two case studies (one for a textile industry and one for the university campus buildings) have been reported in the PhD thesis and have been the matter of some publications.

Another activity has dealt with the study of energy flow in a hybrid vehicle carried out with a pool of Universities, the project was related with the EUCAR project. The final project has been jointly presented in July 1998 in Rome at the ENEA (National Institute on Energy, Environmental and new technologies).

Within the Industrial Energy Analysis Group at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley (USA), the research, sponsored by the USEPA (Environmental Protection Agency), has studied the potential of energy savings and emissions reduction for the US pulp and paper industry. The assessment of this report have been cited in the publication "Scenarios for a clean energy future", presented during the COP6 (UNFCCC).

From October 2000 through April 2001 within the Energy Efficiency Standards Group, another research group of the LBNL, I mainly worked on the project "energy efficiency standards for distribution transformers", assisting in the engineering evaluations of the LCC (life cycle cost). I presented the work done in a talk on April 2001. (Annual Department research)

Post doc grant within the Department of electrical Engineering. The research on the potential for the best available techniques in the Italian pulp and paper industry has been carried out with the same methodology used for the US study. The results should be published by the end of this year.

A study, started in 2001, on the potential of energy savings within several industrialcompressed air facilities in Italy is currently carried out, some results have been presented and other are about to be presented in future conferences and workshop, both at a National and international level.

Thanks to the acquired experience on energy efficiency issues, I collaborated in the organization of a workshop and through an overview paper in an European project: KEEN, sponsored by the EU Commission on the Kyoto Mechanisms, along with a Dutch consulting company (Ecofys) and one German (HWWA)and one English Institutes (RIIA).
