| The return of the classics
The Italian Cultural Heritage Ministry’s endowment of a “National Research Project on
Latin Translations from Greek in the Humanistic and Renaissance Periods” (= ENTG)
is part of a wider national research project aiming to investigate the phases of the ‘return’
of Classical and Patristic Greek texts to the West in the Humanist period.
The Humanist scholars’ translation practices have never been studied as a whole: translation is however
a very crucial and incisive factor in the process of recovery and diffusion of the knowledge of Classical
texts and authors at the beginning of the early modern period. These texts were obviously foundational for
the culture of modern Europe. The ENTG sets as its main target that of promoting
the publication of critical editions of the Latin translations of Greek texts during the Humanist period.     |
