Daniela Grando received the laurea degree in Physics from the University of Firenze in 1991 and the PhD degree in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bari in 1996. Her doctoral dissertation concerned the design, fabrication, and characterization of organic and glass waveguides for all optical switching and frequency conversion. She held postdoctoral positions at LETI/CEA (Laboratoire d'Electronique et de Technologies d'Instrumentation - Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique Saclay, France, 1998-1999) where she investigated the optical properties of interlocked ring molecules called catenanes, and at IROE-CNR (Istituto di Ricerca sulle Onde Elettromagnetiche - Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Firenze, 1997 and 2000) working on thin film waveguides for electro-optic modulation and periodically poled lithium niobate. She has been a researcher in the Nonlinear Optics group at the Department of Electronics of the University of Pavia since 2001. Her present interests mainly include the electro- and nonlinear optical properties of novel photonic materials, multiphoton absorption and femtosecond laser microstructuring.
