Accordo tra IEEE Italy Section e Ebook.it 18/02/2011

a) Sistemi elettrici, Energia e Ambiente;
b) Sistemi elettronici e di controllo;
c) Informatica e Telecomunicazioni;
d) Ingegneria elettrica, elettronica e Management.

presidente@ieee-sezioneitalia.it

(IEEE Italy Section Chair)
Invito del Section Chair Prof. Vatalaro al VT06/COM19 Italy Chapter 11/01/2011
Cari colleghi dell'IEEE Vehicular Technology/Communications - VT06/COM19 Italy Chapter:
Francesco Vatalaro

Call for Nominations for the Major IEEE Awards 09/11/2010
The deadlines for some major IEEE Awards are approaching and this is a good time for Sections and Chapters to begin the search for candidates. There are two categories of the most prestigious awards that IEEE confers each year; The IEEE Medals (deadline for nominations July 1st 2011) and the IEEE Technical Field Awards (deadline for nominations February 1st 2011).
The IEEE Awards website ( www.ieee.org/about/awards) lists previous winners of the major awards (15 Medals and 32 Technical Field Awards) in past years. This will indicate the level of competition that these awards attract.
Please alert your colleagues and volunteers in your Section and Chapter to the opportunity to recognise outstanding achievements worthy of a major IEEE award.
Having identified a candidate, the next step is to find a nominator and supporters who are very familiar with his/her achievements. It is at this stage that the members of the TPA (Technical Awards Panel) can offer advice and practical assistance, and can express an opinion on the prospects for success. By working together we aim to increase the number of nominations from Region 8, and hopefully produce more winners.

Presidenza della Divisione X della IEEE 21/10/2009
La IEEE Division X copre tematiche relative ai sistemi, all'intelligenza, alla percezione, ai sensori, all'interazione, al controllo, all'automazione, alla creazione di conoscenza, e alla persona. Include infatti: Biometrics Council, Computational Intelligence Society, Control Systems Society, Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, Photonics Society (formerly called Lasers and Electro-Optics Society), Robotics and Automation Society, Sensors Council, Systems Council, and Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society.
Nobels for Camera Chips and Optical Fibers 10/10/2009
Digital cameras generate much of the data on our optical fiber telecommunications networks. This year's Nobel Prize in Physics recognizes both inventions. The prize went to the parents of the charge-coupled device camera chip, IEEE Fellows Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith, and also to the grandfather of optical fiber telecommunications, IEEE Fellow Charles K. Kao. IEEE Spectrum is providing limited-time, free access to seminal papers by the Nobelists.

A new book: "Error Correction Codes for Non-Volatile Memories" 27/06/2008
By R. Micheloni (Senior Member IEEE), A. Marelli and R. Ravasio (Member, IEEE), a new book published by Springer-Verlag (ISBN 978-1-4020- 8390-7).
After "A Mathematical theory of communication" by C. E. Shannon, the Coding Theory has begun its tremendous development as interface between Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics. Contributions by mathematicians have focused on the design of new codes and the study of their properties, while contributions by engineers have focused on efficient implementations of encoding/decoding schemes. The research activities in Coding Theory have produced a vast range of different codes (with usually several alternative encoding/decoding algorithms), and their availability has pushed for new applications. Nowadays it is hard to find an electronic device which does not use codes: for example, we listen to music via heavily encoded audio CD's and we watch movies via encoded DVD's. There is at least one area where the use of encoding/decoding is not so developed, yet: Flash non-volatile memories. Flash memory high- density, low power, cost effectiveness, and scalable design make it an ideal choice to fuel the explosion of multimedia products, like USB keys, MP3 players, digital cameras and solid- state disk. In this book the authors expose the basics of coding theory needed to understand the application to memories, as well as the relevant design topics, with reference to both NOR and NAND Flash architectures. A collection of software routines is also included for better understanding.
PUBLICIZE YOUR CONFERENCE 15/06/2008
IEEE Conference Services is asking all Regions, Chapters and Sections to submit an Information Schedule for all Conferences, Symposia, Workshops, Tutorials, Short Courses, Expositions and Conventions. The Information Schedule is a request for basic conference summary information and will allow Conference Services to develop a complete and accurate IEEE conference business profile. In addition, better information will help facilitate a stronger negotiating position with service providers and the information will be used to help you promote your conferences through the IEEE website. As an extra benefit, this conference information is also fed to regional calendars for additional coverage for your unit.This request for information through the Information Schedule does not imply any changes in financial reporting policies. The same threshold for financial reporting remains in effect: which requires that any conference with budgeted income or expense of greater than $25K USD must follow IEEE conference financial reporting rules.The Information Schedule is a powerful tool that benefits IEEE Conference Services and the Regions, Chapters and Sections. Submit the Schedule and it will be used to benefit all. Contact: IEEE Conference Services, 1-732-562-3878, conference-services@ieee.org
