The pre-admission interview for Chinese students will take place on March 31 (Wednesday) at 9:00 in Building of Teaching and Research Room 1805 in the main campus of Tongji University, and it will be based on the following pubblic announcement:

Master Course in Building Engineering and Architecture - Italian Chinese Curriculum

Since 1994 the University of Pavia , IUSS (Institute for Advanced Studies) and Tongji University of Shanghai have cooperated in "The International Design Seminar – Urban Culture and Landscape Renewal" in the fields of Building Engineering – Architecture and in "The Urban Planning".

In 2005 the Minister of Education, University and Research of the Republic of Italy and the Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China signed in Beijing an Agreement which establishes the creation of the Chinese-Italian Joint Campus; as a result the Rector of the University of Pavia, the Director of IUSS and the President of Tongji University of Shanghai signed the Declaration of Intent for developing joint initiatives in the area of Higher Education.

In 2009 the Italian Chinese Curriculum as part of the Master Degree in Building Engineering and Architecture has been activated.

Course programme

The Italian Chinese Curriculum is an innovative academic experience created amid the Master Degree Course in Building Engineering and Architecture, thank to the well-established collaboration between University of Pavia (Italy) and Tongji University of Shanghai (China).  

The five-year Master Degree Course in Building Engineering and Architecture has been established in 1998, in order to match architectural and engineering skills, qualifying for both professions in all European countries. 

The two-year long curriculum is set in Pavia , held by an academic team of both Italian teachers and visiting professors from China , and is conducted entirely in English.

On the basis of the Agreement between the two countries, the title awarded is recognized in all the UE countries and Republic of China.

The new class is composed by selected students:

• Chinese graduate students, from Tongji University , in possession of the Xueshi title in architecture of the duration of five years;
• Italian undergraduate students, from the University of Pavia, who have already attended three years of the ordinary course in Building Engineering and Architecture.

As a result of the Agreement, the IUSS has guaranteed the hospitality of the Chinese students at the “Collegio C. Golgi”, close to the Faculty of Engineering in Pavia .

Student selection

The commission, composed by Prof. Angelo Bugatti, Prof. Epifanio Virga, Dott. Carlo Berizzi (Universty of Pavia) and Dott.ssa Cuomo (Italian Ministry for Education), prof. Zheng Shiling, prof. Li Xiangning, prof. Chen Yi (Tongji University of Shanghai) has selected nine students from Tongji Universiy of Shanghai, on 11th may 2009. On 26th may 2009  eleven Italian students have been selected in Pavia by prof. Angelo Bugatti, prof. Riccardo Galetto, prof. Epifanio Virga, dott. Roberto De Lotto, dott. Carlo Berizzi.

Didactics

The lessons will be set in Pavia , at the Faculty of Engineering. The scheduled didactic activity will be integrated with the participation in the Urban Design Seminar in Shanghai , in spring 2010.

Academic Year 2009/2010

FIRST SEMESTER (sep 2009-jan2010)

Analytical Mechanics

For Chinese students only, the course provides an integration in the fields of mathematics and mechanics.

Architectural Composition 3 (+Lab)

The course aims at the elaboration of an architectural project focused on the morphological innovation and the relationship with landscape and public spaces, supported by theoretical lessons about project culture and contemporary debate.

Photogrametry

The course provides the skills for the execution of topographic operations through advanced topographic instruments (total station), for the architectural survey through digital photogrammetry and photographic techniques, supported by application software for the 3D architectural representation.
