GIOVANNI SPADOLINI

Per Federico Curato

N. 158

Summary — With the profound competence and the acknowledged authoritativeness deriving from his belonging to the limited circle of the great Italian historians, the President of the Senate Giovanni Spadolini traces the academic-scientific itinerary of Federico Curato, another eminent historian particularly engaged in the branch of diplomatic studies and of international policy. The text is the commemoration of the "scholar, methodic and faithful to the cult of the document" pronounced on the 5th April 1991 at the Istituto Lombardo - Accademia di Scienze e Lettere of which Curato was effective member.

Spadolini, taking the cue from the works of greater documentary thickness and of extraordinary interpretative value, as the two fundamental volumes on La Conferenza della pace, edited in 1942 in the series of ISPI or the recent, and last, work dedicated to Il Regno delle Due Sicilie nella politica estera europea, but recalling also many "minor" works, as for example a suggestive and still actual work on the Europe of the nations published in 1969 by "Il Politico", enlightens the historical method of Curato, in which the passion and the interest in the object of the investigation always join with an absolute philological rigour and an exceptional interpretative equilibrium.
