Summary - "Citizenship" is a constantly recurring notion, so much so that its commonsensical meaning might seem even to predate its juridical meaning. The concept seems to designate a permanent reality, inducing one to see as static the juridical phenomenon it describes. In fact, the deeper examination carried out in the literature survey contradicts this first impression. It is noted that the juridical and political meanings of citizenship often coincide. The concept has constantly denoted the subject's membership of the "political community", and is connected to the personal status of the individual, from which the various subjective juridical positions follow.
