Titolo:
"Lo stato nazionale e il suo superamento: analisi de Lo stato nazionale di Mario Albertini"

This article is an explanatory presentation of the ideas advocated by Mario Albertini in Lo stato nazionale, his first monograph focused on the philosophical and historical meaning of nationalism, both as political regime and as ideological framework. After a brief introduction of the main theoretical and methodological sources of his thought, the analysis gives prominence to his confutation of traditional interpretations of the idea of nation, which also describes the pioneering subjective definition of nation proposed by the author. In the second paragraph we re-discover the historical evolution of nation- states and, moreover, the appearance of national behaviour in European societies, in order to demonstrate the modern origin of nationalistic loyalty. Following the structure of Albertini’s essay, the third paragraph returns to discuss about theoretical questions, such as the effects of the fusion of modern state and national group on modern society or the authentic nature of nationalist ideology and its repercussions on individual freedom. The innovative ideas claimed by Albertini have spurred a series of comparisons between Lo stato nazionale and other paramount studies on nationalism published in the last decades of the Twentieth century. The conclusion finally presents the reasons of European nation- state’s decline, which could be tackled according to Albertini by overcoming of the national division of Europe towards the creation of the United States of Europe.
