This article describes the independent authorities that can be found in the member States of the European Union, such as the "quangos" in the United Kingdom, the "autorités administratives indépendantes" in France, the "autorità amministrative indipendenti" in Italy and the "administraciones independientes" in Spain.
By comparing the experiences of several legal systems, the author points to the relations between independent authorities and EU law and he emphasizes the lack of a common "model".
