The current paper aims to contribute to the debate on the frequency of marriage annulment through the Catholic Church. Indeed, a number of Catholic marriages are annulled every year through the Church, in Italy as well as in other European and extra-European countries, the Latin American subcontinent being the area with the highest percentage of Catholic population. After illustrating the grounds and procedures for annulment in the Catholic Church, the paper provides an estimate of the relative frequency of annulled marriages in the year 2005.
