"Sociologia e critica sociale"

The a. interprets the sociological tradition as dominated by the purpose of comprehending/describing social structures, both nations, civilizations, ways of production, and more limited “social totalities”. Such intention could be based on a solid empirical ground as far as it did not try to grasp the very “essence” of the social totalities observed, aiming instead at reconstructing them through the analysis of their autonomous elements. From the above orientation, the sociological tradition draws the ability to identify the structural tensions and therefore to develop the social critique. Other kinds of social critique place themselves within the same tradition, particularly the “local-moral” critique, which consists in describing the social phenomena on the basis of evaluative, shared or shareable, criteria. The a. believes that this kind of social critique plays a prominent role, but he argues that the inheritance of the structural social critique has not to be scattered.
