"Il federalismo di Mario Albertini nel secolo XXI"

Mario Albertini (1919- 1997) was one of the leaders of the European Federalists and a political philosopher. In keeping with the Ventotene Manifesto and Altiero Spinelli’s advocacy for a constituent assembly, Mario Albertini laid the cultural and strategic foundations for Europe’s citizens to call for a European Parliament elected by universal suffrage, and the creation of an economic and monetary Union with its own fiscal resources and a democratic government. As a political philosopher, on the basis of the federalist and cosmopolitan ideas of Immanuel Kant, Albertini showed how traditional ideologies – liberalism, democracy and socialism – cast off the myths of the nation state and exclusive sovereignty, making the values of freedom, political equality and social justice possible for the whole of the human community.
