General Problem: environmental degradation due to instability, conflicts, isolation , low life quality

Overall objective: conservation of biodiversity and of natural and cultural heritage
To cope with this objective three program components have been identified, which should be implemented in a coordinated and integrated manner, respectively for the development of:
  •      conservation-based husbandry of natural resource by local communities
  •      enhancement of education and cultural potential including the implementation of a Museum of the Desert
  •      conservation of wildlife and biodiversity consisting of the development of the Sibiloi National Park and of management in the buffer areas.

  • Conservation is to benefit local population directly and tangibly. Local communities are therefore the direct beneficiary of a substantial part of the project action. There are two groups of such communities involved in the project:

  •      the sedentary population, mainly the communities of fisherman settled aside the Lake
  •      the nomads and semi-nomads, mainly relying on animal rearing.

  • The project purpose, intermediate results and activities of each of these components are summarised in the following Logical Framework Tree of the Objectives and Logical Framework Matrix

Types of cooperation activities: for the implementation of the three Programme’s components the following type of activities are necessary:

  •      studies, surveys, research and implementation of environmental and socio economic indicators
  •      institution building and strengthening
  •      participatory planning, information, education, training, assistance to the communities for the sustainable use of the resources
  •      implementation of infrastructure
