Acknowledgements

The creation of the Interdisciplinary Center for Bioacoustics and Environmental Research was initially granted by the Ministry of Marine Merchandise and then by the Ministry of the Environment (1989-1995). Financial support to research activities was also given by the Ministry of the Universities and of Scientific and Technological Research (MURST) in the framework of "Etologia 40%" Projects.

The cooperation with the Nato Undersea Research Center (formerly Saclant Undersea Research Center) began in 1998 and we want to thank Angela D'Amico, who gave birth to the SOLMAR Project and involved us since the early stages, Mike Carron, who now heads the Project, and Nicola Portunato who continuosly asks for our cooperation.

During years 1999-2004 CIBRA has been granted by the Office of Naval Research (ONR-USA, Grants N00014-99-1-0709, N00014-02-1-0333, and N00014-03-1-0901) to participate in the SOLMAR Project. In particular we want to thank Dr Robert Gisiner for his friendly support and appreciation.

More recently, the cooperation with Columbia University and Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory gave us new research and development opportunities. We want to thank Michael Rawson for having involved us in mitigation activities within LDEO seismic surveys.

Other than the above mentioned agencies, many individuals, organizations and companies have to be acknowledged for their cooperation and support. Among them, ALENIA ELSAG Sistemi Navali, Ambiente Mare, Centro Studi Cetacei, Museo di Storia Naturale di Milano, Italian Navy, Council of Europe, Cetacean Research Technologies (Seattle, USA).

Research, education, training and instrumentation development have been carried out by a very small team: Gianni Pavan, Claudio Fossati, Michele Manghi, Marco Priano. This team often supported the CIBRA activities with extraordinary non-paid work.

In the very first years of activity Fabrizio Borsani gave a significative contribute as well. We also have to thank many other persons who spent some time in the lab to develop a thesis or to give help for free. Among them, Carla Benoldi, Valeria Teloni, Sabrina Djavidnia, Cristina Monti, Giacomo Arcidiaco, Rudi Gobbo, and others.

Last but not least, a special thank is due to Prof. Mario Pavan, former President of CIBRA, who strongly believed in our activities.
