The XVIII IBAC meeting took place in Cogne, a small mountain village located in the core of the "Gran Paradiso" National Park (Valle d'Aosta, western Alps, north-west of Italy) at an altitude of about 1500m (view map), during September 2001, Monday 3rd to Thursday 6th.
It was organized by the "Centro Interdisciplinare di Bioacustica e Ricerche Ambientali " (CIBRA) of the Università di Pavia - Italy.

The meeting followed the international nature film festival "Stambecco d'Oro" (August 25th - September 1st, 2001) organized in Cogne by Ente Progetto Natura and by the University of Pavia every two years.

Due to its scientific importance, the XVIII IBAC meeting has obtained the Patronage of the Presidency of the Italian Republic and of the Council of Europe.
