Biography


Annamaria Caimi studied Modern Languages and Literature (Major: English and French; Minor: German) at Milan Catholic University, where she graduated with distinction in 1977 and was awarded the Gemelli Prize. She taught English for Specific Purposes in the Faculties of Economics, Law and Political Science and English Applied Linguistics in the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Milan Catholic University. Since March 2000 she has been associate professor of English at the Faculty of Political Science of Pavia University and she has been coordinating the courses of English as well the other languages courses. In January 2012 she became affiliated to the Department of Political and Social Sciences – Pavia University.


Academic curriculum


Annamaria Caimi studied Modern Languages and Literature (Major: English and French; Minor: German) at Milan Catholic University, where she graduated with distinction in 1977 and was awarded the Gemelli Prize. She taught English for Specific Purposes in the Faculties of Economics, Law and Political Science and English Applied Linguistics in the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Milan Catholic University. Since March 2000 she has been coordinating the courses of English at the Faculty of Political Science – Pavia University. She teaches English through subjects that are in keeping with the curricula of the degree courses of the Faculty, according to the guidelines of Content Based Instruction.
She has done research in ESP teaching methodology and published ESP teaching materials. She has expanded her research interests to word formation, syntax, discourse analysis and pragmatics. Currently her publications concern a variety of research fields such as the role of screen translation (subtitling) in language learning and the pragmatic function of conditional subordinators in a specialized corpus of the English/Italian versions of the Treaties of the European Union.
