PROGRAM

 

The 3rd International Conference of Philosophy and Cognitive Science

will take place May 26-27, 2011, at the South Campus of

Sun Yat-Sen University, 135 XinGang Xi Lu, Guangzhou, China.

 

We invite contributed papers addressing the following topics:

 

-        abductive cognition,

-        the cognitive structure of scientific theories,

-        the nature and functions of models,

-        scientific representation,

-        mathematical representation in science,

-        model-based reasoning in science,

-        transcultural studies of cognition,

-        cognitive models of religious experience

 

The above topics will be also subsumed in these three symposia:

 

-        Symposium on Scientific Representation:

        Theories and Models; Chairs: Zhang Zhilin and Zhai Zhenming;

 

-        Symposium on Abductive Cognition; Chair: Lorenzo Magnani;

 

-        Symposium on Culture and Cognition; Chairs: Remo Job and Zhu Jing.

SUBMISSIONS, REGISTRATION, & ACCOMMODATION

 

To participate to the conference, please submit an electronic version - formatted in Microsoft Word, .RTF or .PDF (in this last case please include source - .DOC, .TEX or other file) - of an

extended abstract (total word count approximately 1000-1200) or a 16-18 page (500 words per

page) paper with an English abstract. The abstracts will be used for the conference web

site/booklet.

 

DEADLINE: March 30, 2011

Please register by sending, together with the abstract/paper, an email containing the following

information: first and last name, institution, full address, phone, email, and - if required - hotel room reservation.

 

The registration fee is Euro 80, to be paid on location upon arrival.

Registered participants will be offered meals for both days of the conference.

Philosophy of Sciences, School of Philosophy, Fudan University, China; the Institute of

Philosophy, South China Normal University, China; and the Center for Philosophy of Science and

It is suggested that all people arriving by plane and by train take 
the Metro line(s) to Sun Yat-Sen University, 
the conference site, since the Metro transport is faster and cheaper.
