Specific course objectives

The students will acquire the basic capabilities to study, realize and control the electromagnetic compatibility conditions in order to guarantee the correct working modalities of elctro-mechanic, electric and electronic equipments and systems in their installation environment.

Course programme

Pricipal topics 1. The problem of the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC problem): basic concepts and definitions 2. The problem of the electromagnetic interference (EMI problem:radiated and conducted emission; transmission and coupling (radiation , cross-talk, conduction); radiated and conducted susceptivity (immunity);ESD. 3. Methodologies and procedure for EMI control and reduction ( shielding, grounding, routing and bonding, filtering) 4. Measurement techniques 5. Lows and Norms

Course entry requirements

Mathematics: complex numbers, arrays, differential operators applied to scalar and vector fields. Physics: Electrostatic and Magnetostatic fields, Faraday-Neumann, Ampere-Maxwell, Gauss, MaxwellEquations, Lorentz. Potentials, Fresnel and Fraunhofer radiation regions. Electromagnetic Fields: Radiation. Elementary antenna theory, basic elements on guided propagation.
