Specific course objectives
The course, assuming that the students already have a general knowledge of the main transformation processes used in the manufacturing industry, is aimed to build up a specific know-how about some processes, mainly machining.
Course programme
Mechanical technology as physiscal transformation of the metals.
Machining
Introduction to machining. Mechanics of the metal cutting.
Description of the main machining processes and related machine tools: turning, boring, milling and grinding.
Maching parameters related to economical optimization.
Force and Power in metalcutting.
Tools: material and classification.
Determination of optimal parameters.
Finishing.
Machine tools developments.
Methods for fabrication
Introduction to metalworking methods. Examples of machining methods.
Project works
Determination of metalworking process for a mechanical component.
During the course the students will be requestsed to prepare a Project Work related to the working methods for a mechanical component.
Practical class
During the course, some exercises will be made to clarify the different machining operation explained during the lessons.
The practicals are requested to develop the Project Work.

Testing and exams
Two written tests during the year aimed to check the knowledge of the students about the lessons already made plus a discussion about the project work at the end of the year.
