Lecturer:
Gian Michele Calvi
Course name: Laboratorio di progettazione strutturale A
Course code: 064145
Degree course: Ingegneria Civile
Disciplinary field of science: ICAR/09
University credits: CFU 3
Course website: n.d.
Specific course objectives
The student will learn the phases and the main methods to be applied in the design of a bridge for gravity and seismic loading.
Course programme
The students, divided in groups, develop, under the teachers guidance, the seismic design of a bridge according to the Italian and European reference building code; the design starts from the topographical and geotechnical characterization of an area. The project involves the global structural analysis of the bridge carried out through “by hand” simplified methods and the development of numerical finite element models of increasing complexity.
Course entry requirements
Seismic design of structure and theory of structures.
Course structure and teaching
Lectures (hours/year in lecture theatre): 12
Practical class (hours/year in lecture theatre): 0
Practicals / Workshops (hours/year in lecture theatre): 32
Suggested reading materials
Articles, codes and standards will be assigned to the students during the course.
Testing and exams
The course will be graded through a final oral presentation and discussion of the bridge design project developed during the course.
