Course name: PTE planning of energy conversion systems
Course code: 064157
Degree course: Ingegneria Elettrica
Disciplinary field of science: ING-IND/32
L'insegnamento è caratterizzante per: Ingegneria Elettrica
University credits: CFU 5
Course website: http://www.unipv.it/energy/
Specific course objectives
The aim of the course is to teach how to address the planning of a site whether it is a territory or a power plants (thermoelectric, hydroelectric) or involving alternative sources (wind, photovoltaics, cogeneration), according to the final use of energy.
By modeling the system we will investigate how to account for regulatory aspects, technical-economic conditions, environmental, energy and social issues. The topics cover an introduction to planning, discussion of models, optimization techniques to prepare the drafting of the final report of the course.
Course programme
Ranking of energy conversion systems and related environmental aspects and impacts, economic, energy-related planning. Community and national reference standard. Planning through the modeling and optimization of energy systems. The linear programming, the goal programming the MOL programming. The symplex method and the graphical one. Introduction to the markal-family. The framework and the variables. Exercises with answer. Examples of planning. Final group project.
Course entry requirements
Physics, mathematical models, economics, energy conversion, fluid machines, energetics.
Course structure and teaching
Lectures (hours/year in lecture theatre): 28
Practical class (hours/year in lecture theatre): 8
Practicals / Workshops (hours/year in lecture theatre): 12
Suggested reading materials
Testing and exams
Consideration on the topics of lectures and discussion of the final thesis. During the semester few problems, to be solved at home and sent back to the teacher by the due date, will help improving the final score.
