Specific course objectives
The objective of the course is to provide a basic knowledge of Engineering Geology whith paticular reference to some aspects that find general and recurrent applications in civil and environmental engineering. Therefore, the subject is not discuss only about a geological vision, but also about technical vision and affronts problems that involve themes relative earth sciences. About the pratical setting, the course involves the frequency of exercises to give necessary instruments for the analysis pf diagnostic types of unconsolidates soil and coherent rock, the interpretation and the realisation of thematic maps, the solution of cartographic problems,the application of modern techniques of research about geological problems.

Course description
Geology and Lithology
Geology and its relationship to Civil and Environmental Engineering. Structure of the earth's crust. Volcanoes and earthquakes. Rock classification system. Phisycal and chemical properties and uses of rock materials.Fracturing, faults, folds, flexures and cleavage. Neotectonic movements. Activity of rivers, glaciers, sea and wind. Landslites. Groundwater concepts. Boreholes and springs. Geology of the road, tunnels and dams.
