Carlo Cinquini
Course name: Structural Mechanics
Course code: 500847
Degree course: Ingegneria Edile-Architettura
Disciplinary field of science: ICAR/08
L'insegnamento è caratterizzante per: Ingegneria Edile-Architettura
University credits: CFU 9
Course website: n.d.
Specific course objectives
The general aim of the course is to provide students basic knowledge in continuum mechanics and structural theory. Fundamental laws are focused: equilibrium, compatibility, principal of virtual work, constitutive equations.
Beam theory is developed and methods of solution are deeply dealt with, looking at following more applied courses. Some complementary elements are provided, as buckling problems and limit analysis.
Course programme
Solid Mechanics
Stress state. Cauchy tensor. Strain state. Principle of virtual work. Elastic state. Elastic constants. General formulation of the elastic problem. Resistance criteria.
Elastic problem solution
Saint-Venant problems. Normal action. Torsion. Pure bending. Shear and bending.
Applications and extensions
Beam theory. Principle of virtual work. Beam problem solutions. Buckling problems. Limit analysis
Course entry requirements
