Specific course objectives

The purpose of the course is to provide the basic knowledge about protheses design criteria and functional evaluation of the rehabilitation process.

Course programme

International Classification of Impairments, Disabilities and Handicaps

Upper limb prostheses
Cable-controlled arm prostheses. Cosmetic, passive arm prostheses. Myoelectrically controlled arm prostheses. Sensory control system.

Lower limb prostheses
Prosthetic foot: sach, dynamic. Prosthetic knee: mechanical, electronic. Gait analysis for functional evaluation.

Sensorial prostheses
Classification of sensorial prostheses. Artificial vision. Retinal prostheses. Hearing aids. Cochlear implants. Auditory brain implants.

Assistive devices
Mobility. Communication. Domotics. Brain Computer Interface. Rehabilitation robotics. Computer and Web accessibility.

Course entry requirements

Basic knowledge of human physiology. General principles of biomedical instrumentation
