Specific course objectives

The course is organized in lectures and practical activities. The program is divided in two parts; the first introduces the basic concepts of architecture, the elements which compose architecture and techniques needed for the project. The second part concerns the reasons of a project also in relation to the place and the context in which the architecture is thought.

Course programme

The course aims to provide students with the basics of the theory of architectural design by identifying the key elements on which the architecture is based. The study of techniques that allow to compose the architectural space from its elements through common tools of representation is the base of the practical activities.

The reasons of architectural project
The course analyze the constitutive reasons of architectural design in relation to the physical and cultural context in which architecture is conceived. Introducing the concepts of form, character, style, duration and place the student studies the design of a simple object starting from an idea able to organize the space and the elements that define the architectural, to get to the definition of all the parts that constitute the object.
