Specific course objectives

To provide a basic understanding of analog electronic circuits.

Course programme

Semiconductor devices
Principle of operation of diode, BJTs and MOSFETs

Operational amplifiers
Ideal Op AMP. Inverting and non-inverting configurations. Integrator and derivator.

Single stage amplifiers
CE, CE with emitter resistance, CC, CB, CS, CS with source resistance, CD, CG. Schemes for discrete circuits. Integrated circuit configurations.

Active loads
Current mirror. Other active loads.

Introduction to digital circuits
The Inverter. The CMOS inverter. Logic gates.

Course entry requirements

KVL and KCL, Thevenin and Norton equivalent circuits, impedance, frequency response
