Specific course objectives
Course programme
The fundamental concepts of structural performance and reliability are introduced within the framework of limit state design. Subsequently the theory of structural concrete is presented, together with the consequent design criteria and code prescriptions, providing the student with the essential tools for carrying out the design and safety checks of reinforced concrete members. Practical methods of structural analysis are presented with emphasis on the elastic behavior of frame structures. Finally the basic concepts and tools for the structural design of steel structures are provided, discussing their theoretical foundation and the relevant code prescriptions with particular reference to steel members subjected to tension, compression, bending, combined compression and bending.
