Degree course: Ingegneria Civile, Ingegneria per l'Ambiente e il Territorio
Disciplinary field of science: ICAR/07
L'insegnamento è caratterizzante per: Ingegneria Civile, Ingegneria per l'Ambiente e il Territorio
University credits: ECTS 6
Course website: n.d.
Specific course objectives
The scope of the course is to provide students with knowledge necessary to:
- evaluate settlements of shallow foundations and their time evolution;
- compute bearing capacity of deep foundations;
- evaluate slope stability;
- study seepage caused by engineering works and solve relevant problems.
In particular, using computer codes, the student undertakes the numerical solution of some problems in all required steps: schematization, discretization, input and critical analysis of software outcomes.
Course programme
Shallow foundations
Initial and consolidation settlements. Time evolution.
Deep foundations
Building technologies of piles. Bearing capacity of single pile. Piles in group.
Slope stability
Characterization of natural and artificial slopes. Stability of the infinite slope. Stability analysis of slopes by slices methods. Case study using simulation software.
Seepage
Examples of engineering works which cause seepage. Relevant problems. Numerical solution. Case study using simulation software.
