Specific course objectives
The student will acquire the basic capabilities to face the problem to study, realize and control the electromagnetic conditions in order to guarantee the correct working modalities of electronic, electric and electromechanical systems operating according on their design characteristics and operating, in a temporary or permanent way, inside a given electromagnetic environment developing or not the same functional objective.
Course programme
The problem of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC problem):
fundamentals and definitions.
The problem of electromagnetic interference (EMI problem):
radiated and conducted emission, cross-talk; radiated and conducted immunity (susceptivity).
Methodologies and procedure for EMI control and reduction:
shielding, grounding, routing and bonding, filtering).
Measurement techniques.

Course entry requirements
Mathematics: complex numbers, arrays, differential operators applied to scalar and vector fields.
Physics: Electrostatic and Magnetostatic fields, Faraday-Neumann, Ampere-Maxwell, Gauss, Maxwell Equations, Lorentz Potentials.
Electromagnetic Fields: Radiation. Elementary antenna theory, basic elements on guided propagation.
