Specific course objectives
Course programme
The course of industrial automation and communication systems aims to explore issues of the course of automation of power systems, particularly with regard to the control of power grids in power and industrial automation.
Load flow calculations
Definition of the operating point of an electrical power system. Constant power load model. Solution of the load flow problem by the Newton-Raphson method.
FACTS devices
Regulating transformers with complex ratio (phase-shifting transformers, PST). Power electronics devices employed to control voltage and power transmission in electrical systems (Flexible AC Transmission Systems FACTS).
Industrial automation
Programmable logic controllers (PLC); PLC programming languages; programming examples. Computer networks used in industrial automation and SCADA systems.
