Course name: Scienza delle costruzioni B
Course code: 062065
Degree course: Ingegneria Civile
Disciplinary field of science: ICAR/08
The course relates to:
University credits: CFU 6
Course website: http://claudiocarino.angelfire.com/sdc.html
Specific course objectives
The main purpose of the course is to provide students with general criteria for studying complex structural systems, by means of two main steps: modeling the structural system and assessing the static equilibrium and the internal actions. Further, basic concepts for design of simple structures are introduced.
Course programme
1. Rigid body systems
Constraints. Kinematic analysis. Static Analysis. Structural determinacy. Unstable structures. Analytic and synthetic solution methods for static equilibrium. Evaluation of reaction forces and moments. Modeling of complex structural systems.
2. Internal force analysis
Trusses. Beams. Axial force, shear and bending moment diagrams for complex systems.
3. Statically indeterminate structures
Strain in trusses and beams. Methods for the evaluation of element forces and displacements. Continuous beams. Application of Mohr’s analogy for the assessment of indeterminate structures.
4. Basic concepts for design
Structural elements subject to combined loads. Safety assessment methods. Column design and elastic buckling.
5. Complex indeterminate structures
Displacement method. Introduction to matrix methods of structural analysis and to computational structural mechanics.
Course entry requirements
The course requires the knowledge of the fundamentals of Calculus (Analisi Matematica), Theoretical Mechanics (Fisica Matematica) and Linear Algebra (Geometria e Algebra).
