Lecturer:
Roberto Valentino
Course name: Geotecnica (mn)
Course code: 062102
Degree course: Ingegneria per l'Ambiente e il Territorio
Disciplinary field of science: ICAR/07
The course relates to:
University credits: CFU 6
Course website: n.d.
Specific course objectives
The course aims to form the fundamental principles of soil mechanics, in order to solve problems regarding Geotechnical Engineering, with a particular reference to environmental problems.
The course is also oriented to the solution of application problems and its main purpose is to provide students with the basic principles for tackling classical geotechnical engineering design.
The course deals with the Geotechnical aspects of the analysis and design of shallow foundations, including site subsurface exploration and testing, bearing capacity and settlement calculations.
Starting from the geotechnical characterisation based on field and laboratory tests, the course gives the fundamental principles for design and control of gravity and cantilever walls and for cantilever sheet pile walls.

Testing and exams
The examination consists in a written and an oral test. Dates of written tests are shown in the official calendar, while the date for the oral test can be agreed with the teacher.
Written and oral tests can be replaced by two written curricular tests, which are carried out during the course. Dates of curricular tests are communicated by the teacher at the beginning of the course.
