Course website: http://www-3.unipv.it/merlo/circse.html

Specific course objectives

By the end of the course the student should he able to analyze multistage amplifiers with regard to polarization, small-signal behavior, frequency response, also in the presence of feedback.

Course programme

Multistage amplifiers. High frequency response of amplifiers. The differential stage, in MOS and BJT technology. Operational amplifiers: CMOS and BJT schemes. Feedback. Stability of amplifiers with negative feedback. Compensation. A/D and D/A interfaces. Output stages: class A, B, AB.

Course entry requirements

Mathematics (Fourier and Laplace Transform, Complex numbers), Electronics I, Circuit theory

Course structure and teaching

Lectures (hours/year in lecture theatre): 25
Practical class (hours/year in lecture theatre): 25
Practicals / Workshops (hours/year in lecture theatre): 0
Project work (hours/year in lecture theatre): 0

Suggested reading materials

Testing and exams

Final examination includes a open-book written test on circuit analysis and a closed-book test with questions on A/D and D/A interfaces and analog electronic circuits discussed in the lectures. During the course, two midterm open-book written tests are proposed. The final written test on circuit analysis is not required for students with positive results in both midterm tests, as long as the closed-book test is passed before the beginning of the following semester.
