Specific course objectives
To give the basis of the mechanical engineering design
Course programme
Machine Design is a fundamental tool for the mechanical engineer to design reliable and safe machines and parts of mechanical systems. This course gives the basic knowledges on stress and strain in rigid bodies, on the mechanical strength of materials, on the fatigue behavior of metals, and on the design of some simple structures.
Mechanical behavior of materials
Load and stress analysis
Stress concentration
Deflection and stiffness
Failure prevention and strength criterion
Fatigue behavior of materials
Design of mechanical elements
- Beams, shafts and axles
- Pressure vessels
- Bolts and welds
