Specific course objectives

Basic knowledge of the spread spectrum techniques for multiple access, information protection, tranmission on fading channels. Evaluation of the different possible solutions for narrow band or spread spectrum transmission in multiple access scenarios

Course programme

Propagation channels

  • Wire and wireless channels
  • Fading, selective fading and multipath propagation

Channel models

  • Descriptive and generative models
  • Renewal and non renewal models
  • Markovian models
  • Chaotic models

Spread spectrum techniques

  • matched filter and hypothesis testing
  • Pseudo noise - direct sequence techniques
  • Frequency Hopping
  • Time Hopping
  • Hybrid schemes and chirp tecniques
  • Pseudo noise sequences, auto- and cross-correlation properties
  • spread spectrum and coding; hard and soft decision

Multiple access techniques
* Frequency division, time division and code division multiple access * Ortogonal ferquency division * multiuser detection
