Specific course objectives

The course aims to give methods and synthesis examples tied to mechanical design, which have also been acquired in other classes. From this point of view, it is intended to furnish a series of cues which could allow a real connection between the various planning problems and communication and graphical representation tied to product.

Course programme

The programme narrows the students to the world of technical office by proposing and reproducing real cases. In this context, the competences that have already been acquired in the field of parts and ensemble modelling will be deepened.

CAD systems: general aspects
Introduction to geometric modelling systems and to the logic of approach to IT design systems. Part design, ensemble design,2D drawing generation

Example realization of iron structure
Realization of a formwork for pillars of the highway, interpretation of data provided

Parametric design
Methods of parametric design of parts and assemblies, examples of parametric design

Examples of design of steel structures
Is presented in detail the process of building a steel structure, is assigned to follow a proposed steel structure to be achieved independently.

Information management
Content-related product, its management and methods of generating information for documentation of the project. (PDM System)

Transfer data between different CAD systems
Data interchange formats between systems (IGES, STEP, DXF, STL, VRML) and its use to transfer the geometric model

Model creation of a Go-Kart
From a Go-Kart original disassembled performing measurements of all components and computer reconstruction of a Go-Kart Racing: example of reverse engineering

Testing and exams

The test consists in a presentation and discussion of the work developed by each group during the laboratory. In the laboratory exercitations the students, divided into limited groups, will be called to develop, with the assistance and verification of the teacher, a machine design through the use of CAD geometric modelling instruments. This work will constitute integrating part of the final test.
