Construction organization and construction technology

2011-12 Academic year

Lecturer: Daniela Besana

Course name: Construction organization and construction technology
Course code: 502493
Degree course: Ingegneria Edile-Architettura
Disciplinary field of science: ICAR/11
The course relates to:
University credits: CFU 9
Course website: n.d.

Specific course objectives

The course aims to address the complexity of the entire building process, understood as organized sequence of operational steps that lead from the detection of needs to their satisfaction in terms of building production. It also aims to provide students with the conceptual and practical bases for the building technology, seen as a key component of the construction process, from its conception and design, development and production to management and maintenance works. The course derives its content from the methodologies and knowledge available, the state of the art and the latest results of research relating to the conception, design, production and evaluation of building technologies, taking into account local context of use.

Course programme

The course consists of lectures, exercises and project planning workshop. The course also includes seminars on specific topics closely related to building design and organization and management of construction sites. Study-trips and a visit to a construction site will be organised for students. The course gives students theoretical and operating bases concerning building technology design e process, particularly focusing on construction and maintenance process, also by means of seminars concerning building technologies and construction site management. Quality management approach to design, construction and maintenance, also related to the control process is stressed. Performance and functional assessment is deepened both at the design and construction level. The course takes into account both traditional and innovative materials. Concrete structures are deepened as regards mix design techniques. Concrete elements damages and pathologies are also focused on. The course addresses also a focus on traditional materials, like bricks and wood. These materials will be analyzed both in traditional and innovative configurations. Innovative materials and techniques, such as S/R technologies are deepened. Special attention is devoted to durability of materials and systems, in related to maintenance strategies. Some economic indicators are also stressed, relating to global building construction and management costs. Focus on site safety
