Specific course objectives

The course aims at complementing the basics of electrical machines learned in the previous courses, with a generalized approach at the operation of the electrical machines. The description of construction and operation principles of the syncronous machine will complete course.

Course programme

Topics
Inductances Inductance calculation methodology for electrical machines with rotating parts. Magnetic fields in electrical machines Spatial and temporal distribution of magnetic fields in rotating machines with simplified assumptions. Electromagnetic torque Electromagnetic torque calculation in rotating electric machines. Electric machine equations. Equations of rotating machines with one or more concentrated windings. Transformations of the equations in different reference systems. Generalized electrical machine (general equations and torque calculation The synchronous machine (steady state operation as a generator and motor) Asynchronous machine and d.c. machine Complementary notions on the asynchronous machine. Basic equations of the DC machine.
