Specific course objectives
The course is designed to teach knowledge required to perform laser safety. The program, divided into lectures and practical classes, meets TSL training requirements outlined by CEI (Comitato Elettrotecnico Italiano).
The course is divided into three parts: basic knowledge, TSL expertise, numerical exercises and measurements.
Course programme
Basic knowledge
- Laser fundamentals and terminology in the field of laser safety
- Biological effects of laser radiation
- Maximum Permitted Exposure (EMP) and Accessible Emission Level (LEA)
- Laser classification
- laser radiation collateral hazards
- Protective eyewear
- national and international laser safety standards and guidelines
- Risk Assessment
Expertise:
- Laser Applications
- How to measure the laser radiation
- Control measures of laser radiation.
- Choice of protective eyewear
Numerical exercises and measures
Will be proposed numerical examples and measurements:
- Determination of the threshold levels of exposure
- Calculation of accessible emission levels
- Classification of continuous and pulsed lasers
- Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance
- protective eyewear choice
