By Bus
There is a Bus link to and from each of the airports. In our opinion buses are the simplest and time saving way to get to Pavia from Linate and Malpensa.
  • Arriving at Malpensa: take exit N.3 that is just in front of the international arrival gate. Across the street there is the bus station. Panels indicate the different destinations. The one to Pavia is the first on the left (platform N.11); bus company is SGEA (you can check timetables there). The drivers sell the tickets. The trip from/to Malpensa takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes; the fare is 12 Euro per person one way (18 Euro per person round trip). Round trip tickets are valid 120 days. In Pavia there is only one station. The easiest way to reach the centre of the town and the Ghislieri College, is to get off at the station and then take the bus n. 3 Direction "MONTEBOLONE". Bus tickets are available at the tobacconist.
  • Arriving at Linate: when you exit from international arrivals gate turn to the right and you will arrive at the national arrival gate. Take the exit in front of it, cross the street and there is a (small) panel indicating the stops for bus to Pavia; bus company is SGEA (you can check timetables here). The drivers sell the tickets. The trip from/to Linate takes about 1 hour; the price is 8 Euro per person one way (13 Euro per person round trip). Round trip tickets are valid 120 days. The last stop is Pavia, near the rail station. The easiest way to reach the centre of the town and the Ghislieri College, is to get off at the station and then take the bus n. 3 Direction "MONTEBOLONE". Bus tickets are available at the tobacconist.
By Train
Pavia is served by frequent train from Milano Centrale Railway Station. You can check yourself the trains timetable here.
  • Arriving at Malpensa: the simplest way to get to the Milano Centrale Railway Station is by bus. There is a bus leaving from Malpensa to Milano Centrale every 20 min. The ticket fare is about 4.50-5.50 Euro. You have to buy the bus ticket in a counter inside the airport. Alternatively (not the better option), you can also reach Milano downtown with the Malpensa Express Train. It reaches the Milano Cadorna Railway Station (serving the north suburbs - not convenient to reach Pavia) and the Milano Cadorna Subway Station. By the subway system one can easily reach the Milano Centrale Railway Station (take the green line to Cologno, exit at Centrale FS).
  • Arriving at Linate: there is a bus leaving from Linate to Milano Centrale Railway Station every 30 min. The trip time to Milano Centrale (the last stop of the bus; sometimes the bus stops also at another small local station) is about 20 min. Take the exit door just in front of the international arrival gate. Cross the street and the bus stop is there (bus company is STAM and the bus is usually blue). Ticket costs about 2-3 Euro and can be bought by the driver.
By Car
At the airports it is possible take advantage of the presence of Car Rental companies.
  • Arriving at Malpensa: you should take the Highway A8 toward Milano and then follow indications toward Genova taking highway A7. Then the second exit (Bereguardo Pavia Nord) leads to Pavia downtown.
  • Arriving at Linate: you should take the Highway Tangenziale Est (toward Bologna & Genova) and then take the Highway Tangenziale Ovest toward Genova. From this road there is the connection to Highway A7 to Genova. Then the second exit (Bereguardo Pavia Nord) leads to Pavia downtown.
